What are some of your favourite songs you’ve written to date, and why?
Hongjoong: There are three. Good Lil Boy, the lyrics are very ATEEZ-like, and when I listen to the song and focus on the lyrics, I think about the members a lot. There’s From, even though I wrote these lyrics before our debut, there are so many things that I want to say to ATINY right now that are already penned in this song. Lastly, If Without You, makes me think ATINY a lot.
One of my favourite lines is from your song UTOPIA where you sing “It’s a dream, but the truth is / I can’t stop even if everyone laughs at it”. It feels like a line that perfectly sums up who ATEEZ is. What does it mean for you to write a line like this and to sing it on stage?
Hongjoong: It’s a song that’s so fitting for the eight of us, who live and breathe singing and dancing — it is our everything. The line is representative of our sincerity toward performing. It’s a depiction of us singing and dancing in earnest before ATINY no matter what happens in the future. These lyrics are the resolutions of our past, present, and future.
How do you want ATEEZ to change how the world sees K-pop and the industry?
Hongjoong: Honestly, the current perception of K-pop around the world has taken on a very positive outlook as a result of the effort our seniors, the artists that came before us, have made. My sincerest hope is for ATEEZ to contribute to establishing K-pop as a mainstream culture that will continue to have a significant influence over a long period of time.
What has 2023 been like for you so far, and what do you hope for in the remaining months of the year?
Hongjoong: For the first half of the year, ATEEZ had the chance to meet and spend time with ATINY from so many countries. During that time, we were able to feel growth both musically and in various other aspects. Not only that, ATINY gifted us with so many moments that we spent our time very happily. For the second half of the year, we want to give them presents in the form of songs and performances that can return the same love that they have shown us. We want to repay ATINY for recognising and trusting ATEEZ, even among all the other different and amazing performances that they have seen. We’ll show you many things you can be proud of.
